MANILA – About 50,000 teenagers and young adults attended the Jesus Global Youth Day in the Philippines from August 8th to 10th. The event, attended by young people from more than 30 different countries, had been purposely scheduled to align with the United Nations’ International Youth Day on August 12th.
During the seven days before the conference activities at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, attendees were immersed in the practical aspect of changing the world for Christ. Partnering with local churches, teams were mentored and led into community situations where they could demonstrate the Second Great Commandment to “love thy neighbor.”
Plenary gatherings included messages delivered by noted Christian speakers including Manny Pacquiao, Stephen Baldwin, and Nick Vujicic. Worship music was led by several world-class Christian recording artists.
The event was streamed live around the globe to 83,000 churches where an estimated eight million other young people shared in the call to become a “revival generation.” The audience in Uganda alone was estimated to be equal to the number in attendance in the Philippines.
Bishop Oriel Ballano of Harvest Ministry outlined the thrust of the three-day program.
Teach young people to follow Christ.
Be inspired to love Christ as you learn with other youth delegates from all over the world the joy of seeking and finding God’s purpose for your life.
Teach young people to become disciples.
Be committed to living a life with Christ as you learn Gospel truths from highly respected international Christian speakers.
Teach young people to become Christian leaders and to change the world for Christ.
Be the first to lead the change you want to see in your generation.
Dr. Peter Tan-Chi, senior pastor of Christ’s Commission Fellowship, summed up the goal of Jesus Global Youth Day, not as a special event, but an experience from which the young people will
“Disciple the next generation so they can become salt and light to this world for the glory of God . . . [to] know what God wants them to be and do what God wants them to do . . . [to] help galvanize and mobilize the Timothy and John Marks of this generation.”
