Dare To Try in the Outback

ALICE SPRINGS, AUSTRALIA – My Christian Daily describes Cathleen Hope as “a remarkable woman who took up the challenge of traveling to a place that most women would never dream of.”

The remarkable part of Cathleen’s life began after she began to trust Jesus Christ as her Savior. “The peace I received once I was able to put my faith in God was liberating.”

My Christian Daily describes Cathleen Hope as “a remarkable woman who took up the challenge of traveling to a place that most women would never dream of.”

The single mother of three developed a passion for caring for children. She became a foster mother. With the help of her older children, she cared for 45 different children over a period of time. Cathleen says that she and her biological children experienced unusual growth and blessing by placing the needs of the foster children above their own.

Cathleen felt a calling to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. In her case, that meant going to live with the indigenous people of Australia in the Northern Territory. She knew it wouldn’t be easy. She would have to learn to be accepted in their guarded culture. She confirms what most Australians already know; the natives are intelligent and are not easily fooled by strangers with ulterior motives.

She approached the people openly and honestly. She wanted them to see her heart – and the spirit of Christ.

It wasn’t long before she was caring for the four-year-old daughter of an Aboriginal family. Soon, she was also caring for that same family’s new-born son. In fact, the family had insisted that the caregiver parent must be a Christian. Like Queen Esther in the Bible, Cathleen was in that place at that time, “for such a time as this.”

Eventually, Cathleen felt the burden to share her experiences with others. She decided to write a book that she named Dare To Try. A good many people, Australian, American, or other, would think that anyone who wants to live in the desert with Australia’s native people is out of their mind.

She hopes that, by reading her first-hand experiences, others will realize that “with God, nothing is impossible.” Cathleen Hope is living proof that the Lord equips us when He calls us to His work.

She explains that she had two primary reasons for writing Dare To Try.

One was to help “people understand what it is like living in Central Australia.” Although she says that she cannot speak for the indigenous people, she can help others to see them through her experiences.

The other reason is to share her story of coming to Christ. “Nothing has had a bigger effect on my life than my walk with Yeshua.” With that message, her book will help readers to see others through Jesus’ eyes.”
