FORT MYERS, FL — While in Lee County, Florida, Franklin Graham noticed the streets lined with furniture after people’s homes were flooded in Hurricane Ian.
“It just breaks your heart,” he said. “But the chaplains are encouraging them, loving them, praying with them.”
As homeowners endure the aftermath of the Category 4 storm, crisis-trained chaplains from the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team are offering a listening ear and prayer.
“The most important part of all that we do is spiritual, leading a person to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Graham said.

We’re in Lee County right now Fort Myers. But the need is incredible. Water came up so fast it was rising several feet every few minutes and to see the furniture out on the streets to be thrown away, it just breaks your heart. But the chaplains are encouraging them, loving on them, praying with them The most important part of all that we do is the spiritual leading the person to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
When you go through storms like people want to know is God mad, is He angry? No because we have the extraordinary storms. We literally had a storm here. But when we go through the storms of life we need an anchor and that anchor is Jesus Christ, and it doesn’t matter what storms we go through. Jesus will see us through all the way to the end and all the way into His presence in heaven if we put our faith and trust in Him. And that’s what we’re doing here in South Florida, sharing that hope we have with as many people as we possibly can.
