As the number of coronavirus cases in the Asian subcontinent increases, Gospel for Asia (GFA World) is bringing aid to thousands of men, women and children in need. India’s migrant workers have been hit especially hard by the pandemic. In Andhra Pradesh, India, many of GFA’s local fellowships have been active in numerous villages, distributing essential items and meals to people who would otherwise go hungry.

On May 25, Gospel for Asia (GFA) pastor Vadin’s congregation held a food distribution at a railway station for 500 migrant workers returning to their homes. Church staff prayed over and packed the food items and disbursed them that evening with permission of local authorities and police personnel.

Babul, a 50-year-old traveler who received a food packet, said,

“I am thankful to [the church] for providing the food packet. We are traveling in the train for two days, but there is no food on the train. I am happy that you provided food for us.”

Migrant workers traveling by bus have experienced increased hardship due to COVID-19.

On June 2, more than 300 migrant laborers traveling by bus paused their journey to eat a breakfast prepared by Gospel for Asia (GFA) workers. The migrant laborers, who had not eaten since the previous day and were unsure when they would get food again, were relieved to discover a meal waiting for them. Along with the breakfast, Gospel for Asia (GFA) workers gave out free face masks to many migrant workers and police personnel, who helped with the food distribution.

Kushal, 40, said,

“I am so happy and thankful to the church for giving us the morning meal. We thank [you] for the concern towards needy people.”

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc and caused significant hardship for individuals across the world, God is still at work even now, through medical professionals and prayer warriors as well as those distributing face masks, warm meals and compassionate words.
