Leading Millions in Nepal on a Spiritual Journey

At 6:30 every morning, nearly two million people in Nepal tune into their FM radio stations to listen to “Athmik Yathra,” a radio program scripted and produced by a Gospel for Asia-supported pastor

KATMANDU – At 6:30 every morning, nearly 2 million people in Nepal tune into their FM radio stations to listen to “Spiritual Journey,” a radio program scripted and produced by a Gospel for Asia-supported pastor.

The radio program addresses various social issues important to the people with the theme of the Good News woven throughout the program.

For nearly two decades, Kanish, a native Asian pastor, has ministered primarily to the people in Nepal that are steeped in traditions that are thousands of years old.

Because of his great love for the people, Pastor Kanish wanted to find a way to minister to people beyond his normal sphere of influence that is limited by space, time and geography. Just three years after beginning his ministry, he found the answer in radio. The people responded positively and have continued to do so.

Every “Spiritual Journey” begins with prayer, during which Pastor Kanish seeks the Lord’s direction as he writes the scripts for each program. He knows that regardless of whatever timely issue he addresses, from family matters to the tradition of child marriage, the answers are found in the Good News of  Jesus Christ.

“Whatever problems they have, whatever solutions they’re looking for, hope is the theme, and the Good News is the answer.” —Pastor Kanish

Recently, Gospel for Asia released a video about Pastor Kanish and his daily radio program. Entitled “How One Pastor Speaks to Million in Nepal,” the video has been viewed nearly a thousand times during its first month of publication. Missions Box News is pleased to share that video with our readers.

The radio program is an extension of Pastor Kanish’s local ministry that also includes a school and programs in cooperation with the local government to help maintain the cleanliness of the community.
