Atheist ‘Grinch’ Targets Children’s Live Nativity

An atheist "Grinch" organization has bullied an Oklahoma school district into telling third grade children they cannot participate in a live Nativity scene

EDMOND, OKLAHOMA — An atheist “Grinch” organization has bullied an Oklahoma school district into telling third grade children they cannot participate in a live Nativity scene during their school’s annual Christmas production.

Liberty Counsel sent a letter to the Edmond Public School superintendent after Mary, Joseph and the Baby Jesus were dropped from Chisholm Elementary School’s concert after school officials received a threatening letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF).

The FFRF’s claims that the school’s live Nativity would violate the U.S. Constitution were false and simply made to frighten the school district into compliance. Liberty Counsel is offering pro bono defense if the school chooses to resume a live Nativity in the school Christmas program.

Liberty Counsel Founder and Chairman Mat Staver said, “The so-called Freedom From Religion atheist group continually bullies and threatens people every Christmas, and that includes even children. This organization mocks Christianity and does not seem to know what the Constitution means. I hope this school district will not cave to their threats and continues to allow these children to celebrate Christ’s birth in their school production,” said Staver.

Liberty Counsel is a nonprofit, litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family since 1989, by providing pro bono assistance and representation on these and related topics.
