Emergency Field Hospital Now Being Set Up in Ukraine

LVIV, UKRAINE — A Samaritan’s Purse DC-8 has landed safely in Poland and materials for their Emergency Field Hospital have been transported to Ukraine. The Samaritan’s Purse team is now in the process of setting up the facility on the outskirts of Lviv. Based on recent assessments, it has been decided to increase the capacity of our Ukraine field hospital. They are planning for two operating rooms, with capacity for 14 major surgeries or 30 minor surgeries per day. There will be nearly 60 total inpatient beds, including four intensive care unit beds and four step-down beds. The emergency room can handle 100 patients per day. Additional equipment is scheduled to be flown to Poland and taken into Ukraine later this week.

Edward Graham, Samaritan’s Purse:

As the world is watching this war unfold, there’s great need here in this part of Ukraine, with people flooding out and fleeing the fighting. Samaritan’s Purse has responded. We’re going to set up a field hospital right here in this parking garage. We chose this location because it’s going to provide some security and safety. The team right now, they’re humming, they’re working hard. That consists of doctors, nurses, electricians, water specialists. This is a Tier 2 hospital, surgical capable hospital, with an ICU; and it’s going to be treating war victims and fighting victims that are coming from the front and surrounding areas, even civilians that have no other place to go.

Damon Tripp, Samaritan’s Purse:

All of our Samaritan’s Purse tents and our emergency field hospitals are designed to be set up quickly. We’ll be working as fast as we can so that we can help reduce suffering, save lives, and bring the hope of Jesus Christ here to Ukraine.

Edward Graham:

We do this because we love our neighbor. The Ukrainians are in the ditch right now, in this war, in this conflict. We need peace, and I pray for peace for Ukraine– that’s my first prayer– but pray for the safety of our staff. We can’t do any of this without your prayers and support. Thank you.
