DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO — Following the latest attacks by Islamists that claimed the lives of at least 100 people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Christian persecution watchdog Open Doors is calling on the international community to act urgently to protect the largely forgotten people of DRC.
The mass killings of civilians in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a “neglected tragedy”, according to an analyst from Christian persecution watchdog Open Doors.
The latest attacks by Islamist group, the Alliance for Democratic Forces (ADF), have claimed the lives of at least 100 people since the year began.
Christians, who make up 95 per cent of the population, are being slaughtered daily by Islamist extremists, warns Illia Djadi, Open Doors’ Senior Analyst for Freedom of Religion or Belief in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This radical Islamist group is not different from the others. They have a clear ideology and according to that ideology Christians have become a primary target because they are not Muslims. According to the radical interpretation of the Koran they want to establish an Islamic state and convert all to Islam.
Djadi is urging prayer for this troubled nation at this time.
Let’s praying for the people effected by this ongoing violence. For years now they have no longer been able to run a normal life through their business, their house or go to school or church. Because of that thousands have already been displaced. Let’s pray for the local communities and churches because they are overwhelmed.
