ARTESIA, CA — A California-based mission leader with a vision to shake up the way Christian mission agencies, churches and businesses create their leadership strategies has released a new book on the topic.

MISSION VISIONARY’S NEW BOOK CALLS FOR GLOBAL ‘LEADERSHIP SHAKE-UP:’ Dr. Joseph Handley, president of Asian Access (www.asianaccess.org), presents an innovative re-think on leadership strategies in Polycentric Mission Leadership: Toward a New Theoretical Model for Global Leadership.

Dr. Joseph Handley, president of Asian Access (www.asianaccess.org), presents an innovative re-think on leadership strategies in Polycentric Mission Leadership: Toward a New Theoretical Model for Global Leadership.

“We’re in a world that’s increasingly complex and difficult to navigate,” said Handley, who’s been with Asian Access for nearly 15 years. “Polycentric leadership helps bring us together, and helps us center ourselves around Christ. It lets everyone’s voice be part of the leadership process.”

Polycentric Mission Leadership, while focusing on international mission organizations, is relevant to businesses, churches, and other nonprofits thanks to Handley’s expert insights and compelling examples.

“The main point of the book is that every location gets to lead from its own perspective,” said Handley. “Rather than being driven by one person from one single location, polycentric leadership has local leadership designing strategies themselves.”

‘People Want A Voice’

A key is collaborative leadership, a strategy Handley says “isn’t fully owned yet, but is becoming much more pertinent to leadership today. People prefer a more team-oriented atmosphere… they want a voice.”

Diversity is also vital to successful leadership, Handley says, stressing organizations need “young and old, male and female, different ethnicities” to empower everyone and flourish.

Highlighting the roles of mission leaders, academic missiologists, and business leaders that live and work globally, Handley said: “It’s important to see what’s going on in the world and adapt, and even more important to do so as the world continues to become more complicated and polarized.”

Published by Regnum, Polycentric Mission Leadership is available now in the U.K., with a digital version coming soon. It will be released in the U.S. in a few months.
