Samaritan’s Purse Provides Ongoing Recovery Work in Haiti

Samaritan’s Purse continues recovery work in the aftermath of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that rocked Haiti’s southern peninsula on Aug. 14

HAITI — Samaritan’s Purse continues to serve in Jesus’ Name in the aftermath of a deadly 7.2 magnitude earthquake that rocked Haiti’s southern peninsula on Aug. 14. Their DC-8 aircraft flew out just one day after the disaster with a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) and tons of emergency relief. They quickly set up an Emergency Field Hospital in Les Cayes that continues to treat earthquake injuries and provide support in a region now overwhelmed with critical medical needs.

In addition to their mobile hospital, they are also providing emergency shelter material and solar lights, and have set up two water filtration systems in communities without clean water access.

On September 7, Assistant to the Vice President of Programs & Government Relations Edward Graham traveled to Haiti to encourage Samaritan’s Purse staff as well as those suffering after the earthquake.

Edward GrahamAssistant to the Vice President of Programs & Government Relations for Samaritan’s Purse:

Hi, I’m Edward Graham with Samaritan’s Purse, and right now I’m in Haiti. The area around me was recently devastated by an earthquake. Many have lost their homes, many lost their lives. But right after the earthquake, Samaritan’s Purse immediately sent its DC-8 cargo plane down here with a hospital, tarps, and supplies to begin giving people temporary shelter, but also surgical needs– treating hundreds of patients coming from all around, and I’ve seen incredible things today from our volunteers and our staff.

We brought water filtration systems in where we’re providing clean drinking water for tens of thousands, but we’re also providing temporary shelter with plastic and tents for those that have lost everything.

We do all this through the local church, and we do it to share the love of Jesus Christ to those that are suffering and hurting. But we can’t do it without you. We need your prayers, we need your support. But I want you to pray for Haiti. Haiti needs your prayers. It needs your prayers right now during this challenging time as they recover from this earthquake. Thank you.
