Samaritan’s Purse Responding to Severe Flooding in Louisiana

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA — Samaritan’s Purse has deployed to Lake Charles, Louisiana, after torrential rain caused severe flooding across the southern part of the state. As much as 12.5 inches of rain fell in 24 hours in Lake Charles, where people are still recovering from two hurricanes (Delta and Laura) that hit last year.

As waters continue to recede and access to neighborhoods becomes available volunteers will remove ruined walls and flooring, salvage cherished belongings, and carry debris to the street.

Kristin Holben, Samaritan’s Purse:

Samaritan’s Purse is here in Lake Charles, Louisiana, responding to flooding that occurred just a couple of days ago.

Rhonda Broussard, Homeowner:

The flood just all of a sudden came in real high, and it just started rising really fast.

Kenneth Walker, Homeowner:

Couldn’t grab nothing. You just had to leave, or you would have been stranded with the water.

Rhonda Broussard:

Roads and grass and everything was covered high enough to where we couldn’t get out of the house. That boat was having to rescue us.

Kristin Holben:

Many of the homeowners whose homes have flooded, they experienced damage to their homes in Hurricane Laura, Hurricane Delta, the recent ice storm that came through a couple of months ago– so they have been very hard hit.

Kenneth Walker:

After the last ones, I had got my house to be livable again. Now I’m back to square one, ground zero. You just don’t know what to do. You don’t know what to do.

Kristin Holben:

Samaritan’s Purse is here helping out. We want to serve them physically. We want to help mud-out their homes, take out their carpets, take out their drywall. But we are also here, more importantly, to share the love of Christ with them. We want them to know that they have not been forgotten, that they are not alone, and that we love them and that God loves them.

Please pray for this area. Pray for those homeowners who have been affected over and over again. Also, we need volunteers. Find out more about how you can get involved at spvolunteer.org. Thank you so much, and God bless.
