FOREST, Va. — Christian humanitarian organization World Help has activated its crisis response program to provide relief to victims of Indonesia’s deadly earthquake and tsunami.
This past weekend, the Southeast Asian island nation was rocked by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake, which triggered a massive tsunami that swept over the city of Palu. The twin disaster has left at least 1,400 dead, though the final death toll continues to rise. Initial estimates put the number of affected people at 2.4 million, with tens of thousands displaced and an unknown number missing.
Working with local partners, World Help is providing emergency supplies such as food, water, medicine, and hygiene items to survivors. Every $50 donated provides necessary relief items to one victim.
“When disaster strikes, responding immediately can be the difference between life and death,” said Vernon Brewer, founder and CEO of World Help. “Aid supplies that have reached the stricken areas are a ‘drop in the bucket’ compared to the scale of destruction and need. The global community needs to come together and respond quickly to this disaster. Countless families are waiting for our help, and every minute matters.”
