HONG KONG – As the novel coronavirus pandemic continues to spread, major cities in China and more than 20 countries around the world, including Japan, Thailand, and Singapore, have fallen to the virus. Hong Kong’s churches are providing a prayer book online called “Pass Over Us”, and the Chinese Evangelical Association launched a 28-day prayer and fasting campaign for the pandemic.
On February 3, the first 200 Taiwanese who were in Wuhan for family, business and tourism purposes, arrived back in Taiwan via a chartered flight, under heavy media attention. The Taiwan center for disease control sent them to three quarantine centers located in north, central and south Taiwan for 14 days, which was an arduous journey for these Taiwanese to return home.
As the pandemic continues to spread, major cities in china and more than 20 countries around the world, including japan, Thailand and Singapore have fallen victim to the virus. Since Hong Kong’s basic necessities rely on imports from china, the residents are frantically snapping up goods.
Xia Zhongjian, Secretary General, Chinese Evangelical Association, who has been assisting on the front lines, said:
“We have sought out various channels, hoping to fundraise and provide support, but the message that we got was that it was very difficult. I know there are 2 overseas non-profit organizations which sent several containers of medical supplies to Shanghai Customs, and they were expropriated by the government.”
To ease people’s anxiety, Hong Kong’s churches are providing a prayer book online, called Pass Over Us, and the Chinese Evangelical Association launched a 28-day fasting and prayer campaign for the pandemic.
“This has become a worldwide emergency incident. So 14 days is one cycle of the quarantine period, two cycles is exactly 28 days, so we’re doing this from February 1st to February 28th.”
This pandemic is causing people to lose faith in each other. Christians need to demonstrate love and be salt and light to the world. It’s a challenge but also an opportunity.
