Caring for Migrants at Mexican Border in Jesus’ Name

As waves of refugees arrive on the border between Mexico & Texas, Samaritan’s Purse is working on both sides of the Rio Grande to help them in Jesus' Name

RIO GRANDE RIVER – As waves of desperate migrants arrive on the sweltering border between Mexico and Texas, Samaritan’s Purse is working on both sides of the Rio Grande to help them in the Name of Jesus Christ.

“Some of these people have been traveling for months and they have been through so much,” said Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham“Samaritan’s Purse has teams on the border right now, and we are working with churches, evangelical Christian partners, and local officials to help alleviate the suffering of as many as we can.”

Weather along the border is unbearably hot, with temperatures up to 108 degrees.

On the U.S. side, Samaritan’s Purse is working in Del Rio, Laredo, McAllen, and other communities to provide water, food, and other emergency supplies, including hygiene kits and diapers, at transit centers for those who have been cleared by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorities to enter the United States.

A local pastor and his wife in Laredo have opened their home to more than 100 exhausted migrants daily. Samaritan’s Purse helped provide them with mattresses and a refrigerator and are preparing to set up tents so they will have more space and shade.

In Del Rio, Texas—where 70 to 120 migrants are passing through daily—Samaritan’s Purse is working together with the Val Verde Border Humanitarian Coalition to operate a respite center. Among other actions, Samaritan’s Purse is bringing in a kitchen trailer and recruiting volunteers to help serve and prepare meals. Most important, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being shared with those passing through the center.
