Cure International Opens Zimbabwe’s First Children’s Orthopedic Hospital

CURE International, global provider of surgical treatment for children with treatable disabilities, has opened Childrens Hospital of Zimbabwe

ZIMBABWE — CURE International (CURE), a global provider of surgical treatment for children with treatable disabilities, has opened CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, a first-in-the-nation facility providing life-transforming medical care to thousands of vulnerable children.

At CURE Zimbabwe, surgeries are free to children under 18 regardless of race, religion, or gender. Conditions that the hospital treats include, but are not limited to, angular limb deformities, congenital upper and lower limb conditions such as clubfoot, bowed legs, knock knees, rickets, osteogenesis imperfecta, and cerebral palsy. At full capacity, CURE Zimbabwe is equipped to do over 2,000 procedures a year.

A first of its kind orthopedic children’s hospital has opened its doors in Zimbabwe and is offering its services free of charge.

Lucy’s grandson Endinako was involved in an accident which left his arm seriously injured. Since then, they have been shuffling between hospitals seeking surgical intervention. But up until now, no help had been found. CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe is run by CURE International which operates similar hospitals in eight countries and was therefore able to provide the much needed surgery.

Lucy, Patient’s Grandmother:

“Before the operation, I was so scared that there would be something wrong with him. But now I see he has been operated on. I am happy and I thank God.

According to CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe’s Doctor in Charge Dr. Collen Msasanure, this hospital is providing a much needed specialization in Zimbabwe.

Dr. Collen Msasanure, Doctor in Charge:

When a child presents in the general hospital, in our central hospitals, in our orthopedic department with a deformity they keep getting pushed away. And before, you know it, they grow up to be adults with a lot of disability which could have been improved, but with this CURE hospital the child with a deformity is well taken care of.

The hospital which specializes in orthopedic care for children also offers spiritual care to its patients as part of its holistic treatment model.

Jonathan Simpson, Executive Director:

Zimbabwe needs a hospital like this. It needs a hospital to show the love of Christ. It needs a hospital that can offer world class surgeries for children at no cost.
