WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing the food distribution facilitated by Gospel for Asia and Body of Life to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hundreds of cars lined up on the Gospel for Asia campus on Saturday, July 18, to receive free boxes of fresh food items to help sustain them through the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants from Body of Life, another Texas faith-based organization, worked alongside the Gospel for Asia (GFA) volunteers in distributing more than 1,000 boxes of much-needed grocery items.

The “manna from heaven” was supplied by DiMare Fresh, a Dallas area food purveyor, through the U.S. government-funded Farmers to Families Food Box program. DiMare Fresh is a USDA approved contractor supplying “boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meat products, and a combination box of fresh produce, dairy, or meat products.”

During the first round of the Farmers to Families Food Box program, the USDA funded $1.2 billion of food purchases, and DiMare Fresh packed and delivered 1.4 million boxes of food items weighing approximately 27.2 million lbs. The first round of distribution spanned the 45-day period from May 15 to June 30. DiMare Fresh supplied food boxes to about 225 different nonprofit organizations and food banks during the initial phase.

The distribution event at Gospel for Asia (GFA World) on Saturday was part of the second round of the Farmers to Families Food Box program. The second round, which extends through August 31, will supply an additional $1.47 billion in fresh food to families suffering during the pandemic.

The entire program is dependent upon 501(c)(3) nonprofits who have “the operational and financial capability to receive, store, and distribute requested food items.” The distribution channel begins at the farm. Distributors package and deliver food boxes to nonprofits that, in turn, supply people living in their communities.

Wills Point mayor, Mark Turner, volunteered at the food distribution event at the Gospel for Asia (GFA World) campus. Mayor Turner put the program into perspective when he described it as “neighbor taking care of neighbor.”

That neighbor-to-neighbor relationship is what drives Gospel for Asia (GFA World) and Body of Life to participate in projects like this.

“As a faith-based nonprofit organization, Body of Life is called to feed God’s starving families hungry in body and spirit. You will hear us say this again and again: “‘We want to reach everyone, until ALL are fed.’”

Gospel for Asia (GFA) has been serving the people of South Asia from its Texas headquarters for 41 years, supporting national workers who minister as the hands and feet of Christ, helping to provide clean water, sanitation, food, medical care, community care and disaster relief.

Gospel for Asia (GFA), Body of Life and similar faith-based organizations are fueled by the labor of people who love the Lord with all their hearts. They demonstrate their love for Him by lovingly serving their neighbors, whoever they are.
