Helping Liberians with Hope and Honey

LIBERIA — Dozens of Liberian beekeepers are learning the trade through the Beekeeping for Economic Empowerment (BEE) program. The BEE program is a Samaritan’s Purse livelihoods project that teaches families new skills to harness the natural abundance in their communities, to increase their income, and to make a better life for their families.

J Sheriff TwehSamaritan’s Purse:

God is our creator. He’s wonderful and he created a lot of wonderful things in the world. The bees is one of the wonders we can boast of that God created. Many people think that how does bee go out there and make honey. It’s a wonderful thing.

Going out collecting the raw materials that are used for hornet production and breaking them in half, making combs and putting hornet into the combs. That’s a wonder. That’s a wonder.

God can never be left out when you are doing beekeeping. You always have to mention him and tell the beneficiaries and tell whoever around how powerful God is.

Eric Y KollieBeneficiary:

When people came to me and said we can raise bees, I wonder, how will we raise bees. They are so aggressive. People say we will train you.

James DolobiaSamaritan’s Purse

In the past, if you told anybody about beekeeping, they would say, “No, that is not important. We can’t do that.” But now, they are getting to know that beekeeping is actually important. You can raise bees for honey production.

I love the collection of pollen and nectar of bees. It’s very, very, very important.

J Sherrif Tweh:

We have a lot of natural forests in Liberia, and we have our epiaries are rich with coffee, cocoa, and other flowering trees that are very much good for honey production.

Bees, as a matter of fact, we know that they are the highest pollinators in the world, and we have to preserve the lives of the bees so that they can help carry out pollination for more crop production for our farmers.

Eric Y Kollie:

I’m so happy. Beekeeping brings so many help to us as humans. Give God the glory. God is the one that will direct me to get the honey.
