OM UK Celebrates 60th Anniversary

HALESOWEN, ENGLAND — For 60 years, OM has been ministering in the UK. Over the years, tens of thousands of people have been inspired and equipped to engage in mission work around the world. And today, by the grace of God, OM has over 275 missionaries from the UK living out His love in over 45 countries and on board Logos Hope. OM Founder George Verwer reflected on this remarkable legacy during an OM UK celebration event.

Mission agency Operation Mobilisation UK is marking its 60th anniversary this year. Speaking at an event in Halesowen in England to celebrate this milestone OM Founder George Verwer shared the biggest challenges he faced in launching this faith venture in the early 1960s:

Finding the finance. Because I tended to spend before I had. And I was committed to 25 million pieces of literature. Even in those days that was a lot of money. But God provided. And the first summer we had 200 people. The next summer we had 2,000. Since then 200,000 including 25,000 Brits.

Verwer went on to reflect on the countless lives that have been impacted over the past six decades:

Well I think the legacy is in the lives of the people who came to Christ and tens of thousands have made re-dedications, stood up, come forward in their meetings to be radical disciples. And to pray often that prayer ‘Here am I, send me.’

Now aged 83 Verwer is as passionate as ever about global missions as he shares his latest Bible distribution project:

One of the most exciting things I’m doing now because my main things with prayer is raising money and raising funds to give away 100,000 Bibles. Never been done in history. So we just hit the 50,000 mark.

And OM UK is currently recruiting missionary crew members on board their latest vessel the Doulos Hope that is set to launch in 2023.

About Operation Mobilisation (OM)

Operation Mobilisation started in the summer of 1957 when George Verwer and two friends sold their possessions to raise money for a trip to distribute Christian literature in Mexico. From this first trip, the small team began to share their vision to mobilize Christians from around the world to reach the nations. As hundreds of Christians responded, the Operation Mobilisation movement was born.

Today, over 3,300 OM workers, representing over 100 nationalities, are bringing God’s love and truth to millions every year.
