There’s been anger among the people of Syria that the response was much slower in helping those also devastated by the disaster in their country. However, Christian charity, helped the persecuted, was quick to mobilize their team to provide vital supplies of food, water, clothing, bedding, hygiene kits, and shelter. Their Regional director Salam explains how they were able to respond on the ground so quickly

SalamHelp the Persecuted Regional Director:

The first we heard the news we started contacting our partners on ground. A different pastors from different churches and we prayed with them and we said that we’re gonna support you. We have local teams, local field workers. Then another team was formed from another country adjacent to Syria and went inside Syria and joined the Syrian team there. So it was really fast because we have team on ground already. We have our staff on ground

Salam says his persecuted Believers there have endured so many years of Civil War. They’re also ministering to the emotional and spiritual needs of those are helping.

The team that went they were like listening to people, crying with them even, praying with them to telling them that the Lord is still there. The challenge here is like the country has been under stressed for the last 15 years.

A key part of their effective response is working alongside local churches. The rather Regional director Samar brings this update while there were ministering in a local Evangelical Fellowship in Aleppo.

SamarHelp the Persecuted Regional Director:

We planned actually a service, worship service to be with the people and to share God’s love. One of our team members is a pastor so he shared the gospel with them, he encouraged them and he encouraged the pastor. When we ask the pastor, “What’s the most need that these people who lost their homes?” So he said the best thing for them now is to give them financial help so they can go and buy their basic needs.

And Help the Persecuted is also focusing on providing longer-term support to those who lost everything including providing much-needed housing.
