Water Mission Earns 4-Star Rating for 15th Consecutive Year

1 percent of charities assessed by Charity Navigator earn its coveted 4-star rating and Water Mission has earned the rating 15 years in a row

CHARLESTON, SC — Every year, Charity Navigator evaluates more than 8,000 charities across the United States to help donors make informed decisions by assessing the financial health, accountability and transparency of these nonprofit organizations. Only 1 percent of charities assessed by Charity Navigator earn its coveted 4-star rating. Yet nonprofit Christian engineering organization Water Mission has earned the rating 15 years in a row.

“Water Mission’s four-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our supporters our commitment to good governance and financial accountability,” said Water Mission’s president and CEO George C. Greene IV. “It sends an important message to our supporters’ trust that we’re using their gifts wisely and providing maximum impact through our safe water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions for people in developing countries and disaster areas.”

Charity Navigator began evaluating charities in 2002, using objective analysis and awarding only the most fiscally responsible a 4-star rating. The organization added 17 metrics, focusing on matters such as governance and ethical practices, to its methodology in 2011. Such metrics determine which charities operate according to industry best practices, as well as transparency with donors and stakeholders.

“Water Mission’s exceptional four-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public,” said Michael Thatcher, CEO and president of Charity Navigator. “Based on its four-star rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support Water Mission.”
