PERRY, FLORIDA — Liberty University leaders and students served with Samaritan’s Purse and Edward Graham in Florida today to help homeowners suffering after Hurricane Idalia.

Edward GrahamChief Operating Officer, Samaritan’s Purse:

So today I’ve been out here with LU-SIN in Taylor County, Florida, where a hurricane has come through here recently and devastated homes. And these are Liberty students, are part of a program where they send their actual students during the school year throughout different disasters in the US.

Samaritan’s Purse and Liberty University go way back. They’re all about educating and training champions for Christ. They’re bold for the gospel. They’re unashamed. And that’s why we love the school.

Dondi E. CostinPresident, Liberty University:

This is what makes being a college president fun. When ministry is combined, the kingdom just grows. I’m so incredibly proud of our students, excited that they’ve chosen to come here and do what God’s called them to do.

Edward:

And this homeowner, she was overwhelmed with what she had to do. And there’s so much damage. I just believe it’s beyond repair. She needs a new home. I told her that Samaritan’s Purse, if she would let us, we’ll gift her a new mobile home. This is a gift from God. And I want to know that God has not forsaken her and that God loves her. And that’s why we’re here. That’s why the volunteers are here. Simple acts of service in the name of Jesus Christ can change and pierce hearts, broken hearts.

David GilbarteVolunteer:

It’s a cool opportunity to take what the enemy meant for evil and just use it for good and get out here and serve. It goes so far beyond just the work, but it’s also those connections being made. It’s a really cool opportunity to say, hey, you don’t have to search anymore. We have the answer and his name is Jesus.

Edward:

We have the equipment, we have the resources, we need volunteers. That’s why Samaritan’s Purse and Liberty, we often partner. For the students, it’s a great lesson. Always be ready to give a reason for the hope inside you in the name of Jesus.
