SAO PAULO – Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro appeared unexpectedly at the Send Conference in Sao Paulo, surprising the 140,000 people in attendance at the Brasilia National Stadium.
Bolsonaro appeared at his own initiative and was, of course, invited to speak to the crowd assembled to worship together and to hear teaching by noted evangelical Christian leaders, including Daniel Kolenda, Christine Caine, Francis Chan, Michael Koulianos, Christian Caine, Todd White, and Loren Cunningham.
“The Send” is a collaborative campaign between Youth With A Mission, Lifestyle Christianity, Christ for All Nations, and Lou Engle Ministries desiring to rally believers to live “a lifestyle of Christ-like action.” The initial intent of “The Send” to “see the re-evangelization of America and the finishing of the Great Commission” began with a massive gathering in Orlando, Florida, in January 2019. The scope of the mission is now worldwide with the inclusion of the Brazilian campaign.
Pastor Daniel Lucena tweeted concerning decisions recorded during the conference.
- 4,877 decisions to trust Christ as Lord and Savior
- 7,890 young people enrolled in discipleship training and committed to bringing revival to their schools
- 6,457 people enlisted to become the hands and feet of Jesus to the disadvantaged
President Bolsonaro attended the event to encourage the crowd and to publicly affirm his own faith in Jesus Christ and his commitment to lead Brazil according to Judeo-Christian principles, as he promised in his presidential campaign.
(Some media mistakenly reported that Bolsonaro had just accepted Christ at The Send meeting. He has, however, confessed his faith in Christ many times.)
Bolsonaro unashamedly claimed Jesus as his savior and that “Brazil belongs to God.” His motto is “Brazil above everything; God above all.”
The conference even impacted its speakers. Christian Caine shared,
“My biggest takeaway from being in Brazil is that I don’t believe God enough. I dream too small. I expect too little. I rationalize too much. I’ve decided to press in for more. Dig deeper for more. Pray fervently for more. My faith has been stretched, and I love it!!!”
May we all allow the Lord to change us in the same way.
The next “The Send” conference is scheduled for Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, in October 2020.
