TOGO — Christian charity CRY has launched a campaign to highlight how education is helping to break the cycle of poverty in some of the neediest parts of the world. This report shares the story of how an orphanage that they support in Togo is providing life-changing opportunities for many young lives through the power of love and knowledge.
Christian charity Cry is running a campaign this month to highlight how they’re supporting partners around the world who are helping to break the cycle of poverty through education. One of those projects that’s having a significant long-term impact is an orphanage they’re helping in Togo, as the charity’s operations manager Kezia Brennan explains.
Kezia Brennan:
They’ve been cared for, they’ve gone to school, they’ve gained these extra skills, they’ve then gone on and gone to university or got jobs. And what’s coming back now is we’re seeing this circle of support. So we’re having stories of Roland, who 20 years ago comes to the orphanage. He’s now been trained. He’s an optician. He’s now running and working there and he’s giving back to children what he was given as well.
Kezia went on to share how as well as educating the children, providing birth certificates for them is also life-changing.
Kezia:
A birth certificate enables firstly these children who are then attending school, either to attend school but then also to take exams. It will then enable them to go to university if that’s what they want to do. So it enables them to learn. It also gives them a sense of identity.
And CRY remains committed to continuing to break this cycle of poverty as they support projects like these in 19 countries around the world.
