COLOMBIA — Venezuelan families who have fled to Colombia to escape their country’s crumbling economy give thanks to God for food provided by Samaritan’s Purse.

Yancy:

Things are becoming horrible in Venezuela. Food cannot be found.

Maria:

Venezuela was in crisis. I think the pandemic made it worse.

Osmerys:

It’s very difficult there to get food and medicine. We came because of the situation there. He [my husband] couldn’t continue working. And since he couldn’t work, we decided to come here.

Eric Huxley, Samaritan’s Purse:

Venezuela, for a long time, has struggled through food shortages, massive hyperinflation. So when you pile the pandemic on that situation, people were forced to make that decision of last resort– “We’ve got to leave.” And now they’re leaving with what they can carry on their backs.

The number one need for migrants is food. They need food. People are coming with severe malnutrition. And their needs are very basic, but very severe as well. And so what Samaritan’s Purse has been doing has been providing hot meals to those most in need. In addition to that, we’re also serving those migrants that have a place to live and have a kitchen to cook in, but don’t have access to food. With the worsening situation, this is an opportunity to not only meet real physical needs here on the border, but also to share the Gospel and the hope that they can find in Jesus Christ.

Yancy:

I arrived last night at 8 p.m. They took good care of me. They gave my daughter food. We ate well. She is eating things that she could not in Venezuela.

Osmerys:

Thanks to my God, despite the circumstances and adversities we have had, I am calm.

Maria:

If this shelter were not here, My children may have become dehydrated and malnourished. Thank you so much. I am so grateful because not everyone has this luck. I am simply and extremely grateful.

Osmerys:

I am filled with happiness because there are people Who give, and they give from their heart. They don’t expect anything in return.

Eric Huxley:

In 2021, we have the opportunity to provide food for tens of thousands of people. This is an opportunity for us to not only meet real physical needs here on the border, but also to share the Gospel and the hope that they can find in Jesus Christ. So we ask for your prayers. We really appreciate your support as we continue to serve those that are most in need here in Colombia along the border with Venezuela.
