Flint, Michigan to Start Home Delivery of Water Due to Judge’s Ruling

Flint-Water-Delivery

A few years back, Flint, Michigan was found to have water that was mixed with a bunch of lead. It is not until last November though, that a judge made a mandate allowing for home delivery of water bottles.

Fox News reports, “A judge on Thursday ordered delivery of bottled water to lead-tainted homes in Flint, Michigan, unless residents opt out or officials verify that a water filter has been properly installed.”

The distribution is required of all homes in Flint, except for those who have a faucet filter.

Michigan Radio explains, “A judge on Thursday ordered delivery of bottled water to lead-tainted homes in Flint, Michigan, unless residents opt out or officials verify that a water filter has been properly installed.”

Part of the reason water distribution was started was because many people couldn’t get to where the water was being handed out.

News Talk 94.9 states, “Judge David Lawson granted an injunction Thursday sought by the American Civil Liberties Union and Natural Resources Defense Council. They’ve argued that many residents can’t get to water distribution sites or have other challenges.”

There are qualifications for having water delivered to homes.

Per Fox News, “It’s unclear how many people in the city of roughly 100,000 will get home delivery. Lawson said the state of Michigan and Flint must provide each home with four cases of bottled water per week per resident, if they qualify.”

2014 was the year lead started infecting Flint, Michigan homes.

Michigan Radio explains, “Beginning in 2014, improperly treated water damaged Flint’s pipes. The pipes leached lead into Flint’s drinking water.  Recent tests showed improvement, but lead levels continue to be higher than acceptable in many Flint homes.”

In fact, it took 18 months to find out the water hadn’t been treated properly.

News Talk 94.9 states, “Corrosive water from the Flint River wasn’t treated properly for 18 months.”

The reason why Flint made bottle readily available for delivery, is that it is heavy and the only other option for getting clean drinking water is through a water filter.

Fox News reports, “Flint residents are urged to use bottled water or filtered tap water while the city’s water system heals from lead contamination. Corrosive water from the Flint River wasn’t treated properly for 18 months.”
