Global Aid Network (GAiN) is working with churches to stabilize agriculture in Liberia following the 2013-2015 Ebola crisis. According to GAiN’s Website, “They are strengthening the local churches to raise resources and mobilizing congregations to take the lead in agriculture. They see opportunity for churches in Liberia to help the nation overcome food security issues.”

Besides widespread death and sickness, Ebola seriously crippled the infrastructure of affected nations, particularly agriculture. Food imports all but stopped during the height of the crisis, and many lost their jobs, making them unable to purchase whatever food was available.

The Ebola crisis that claimed an estimated 11,000 lives in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone is still not contained, according to the World Health Organization, after recent outbreaks in Guinea and Liberia.

The recent Ebola infection began in Guinea, claiming the life of one man whose wife traveled to Liberia and later died of Ebola. A son is now sick. Health officials in Liberia say they can contain the current cases and are monitoring 46 people who had contact with the sick.

Pray for the containment of Ebola in West Africa and GAiN’s church-based initiative to address long-term food security issues in Liberia.
