Gospel for Asia (GFA World) and community volunteers are gearing up to give away more than 1,400 food relief parcels Aug. 22 to local families, including those hit by COVID-19 income loss.

BOXES OF HOPE: Bishop Danny Yohannan of Wills Point-based ministry Gospel for Asia (GFA World) and other local volunteers helped distribute USDA “Farmer to Families” food boxes to local families impacted by COVID-19 last month. GFA World will hold its next food distribution Sat. Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at its campus at 1116 St. Thomas Way, Wills Point.

Last month, Gospel for Asia (GFA World) partnered with Body of Life for its first food distribution at its headquarters in Wills Point, distributing more than 1,000 USDA “Farmer to Families” food boxes — packed with fresh produce and other food items — to grateful families from Van Zandt and Kaufman counties.

Now the international mission agency that calls Wills Point its home plans to stage local food distributions every month while supplies last — and aims to bless hundreds of families hurting financially because of job layoffs, reduced work hours, or other difficulties.

“I’m so grateful we’re able to serve our community during this critical time in our nation when so many are without hope because of the pandemic,” said Bishop Danny Yohannan, vice president of Gospel for Asia (GFA World). “If anyone is in need of food or knows someone in need, we invite them to come to our next food distribution.”

Next Event: Aug. 22

The next local food distribution will take place at GFA World’s campus at 1116 St. Thomas Way in Wills Point, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. — or until boxes run out — on Saturday, Aug. 22. Food boxes will be supplied by USDA’s Farmers to Families program.

BOXES OF HOPE: Wills Point Mayor Mark Turner volunteered to help load food boxes last month.

“It’s very important to help everyone, to keep strong,” said a grateful recipient at last month’s event whose husband lost his job because of the pandemic.

The event has the support of Wills Point Mayor Mark Turner, who was among the volunteers last month helping load food into people’s cars.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) is also helping to feed hungry families on the other side of the world.

“While we’ve been able to distribute food here in Texas, thousands of our parishes in Asia are distributing food to tens of thousands of families each month,” Yohannan said. “May God give us grace to do even more.”
