New Homes Dedicated in Alabama After Tornado Devastation

Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are working to help residents restore their damaged homes after a tornado laid waste the Texas Panhandle town.

SELMA, ALABAMA — Samaritan’s Purse celebrated the completion of eight new or repaired homes in Selma, Alabama, after a tornado ripped through the area over a year ago. Families were grateful to God for this new start.

Shawn VollmeringSamaritan’s Purse:

On January 12th in 2023, a tornado came through Selma, Alabama, and it devastated this little town. Disaster response came in. They came in and loved on this community. Got people back in their houses. People are really enjoying it. They’re loving the fact that Samaritan’s Purse has been here sharing the love of Jesus Christ with them, more so than getting their houses fixed.

Henrietta DavisHomeowner:

Well, I think about Samaritan’s Purse, if you see some little orange shirts running around, they’re some awesome people. Samaritan’s Purse is rebuilt for us. You can’t ask for more.

Inetta Taylor and Alene ScottHomeowners:

When I tell you they move fast, it seems like when they started, they didn’t stop. And they work from sunup to sundown. Samaritan Purse, y’all are God sent.

Shawn:

As of today, we have completed eight of our new construction homes, and we should be complete with the other two next week. We’re having a home dedication for Lewis Sharpe’s home. It was long awaited this day.

Lewis Harpe II:

Today I get to move back home in my new house. I come back home to a beautiful home this time. And it’s safe. Back home. And I’m happy. I thank y’all. I thank y’all a lot for this, man.

Shawn:

Really, that’s the whole idea, is we get to make a difference. It’s not about building homes, it’s about relationships.

Lewis:

I thank y’all, I thank y’all a lot. If it wasn’t for y’all, it would’t never happen.
