DALLAS, TX – The renowned Dr. Os Guinness was the featured speaker at the fifth and final day of the annual National Religious Broadcasters Convention on June 24, 2021.
He was one of the many Christian luminaries to grace the stage at the Gaylord Resort in Grapevine, Texas. Others included former U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo; President of Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Mark Jobe, President & CEO of First Liberty Institute, Kelly Shackelford; Founder & President of CURE, Star Parker; Editor-in-Chief of All Israel News, Joel Rosenberg; and Founder & President of the Pacific Justice Institute, Brad Dacus.
Guinness inspired attendees to be faithful and courageous and to fulfill our “unique opportunity” to change the world. Although his exhortation may be narrowly construed as aimed specifically at religious broadcasters, his plea applies to all followers of Jesus Christ. The Lord has given each of us a commission to make disciples. In a very real sense, therefore, we are all religious broadcasters.
We may not have a radio station, a TV network, or other mass media platform, but we do have the unique opportunity to broadcast the Good News of Jesus Christ regardless of our sphere of influence.
Dr. Guinness reminded his audience that “We know words matter.” We have the unique opportunity to broadcast the same words the Apostle John used to open his Gospel.
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him,
and without Him, nothing was made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Bible-believing Christians are the only ones with the words of life that can truly change a world that is confused with erroneous thinking, false teaching, and fake news. This is especially significant given when we consider two other portions of the Good News, Matthew 24:35 and Romans 10:17.
Heaven and earth will pass away,
but My words will by no means pass away.
So then, faith comes by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God.
The commission our Creator-God has given us is to broadcast His Word. Sometimes we must be courageous. We always need to be faithful.
Following Dr. Guinness’ speech, Troy Miller, the CEO of NRB, added a final plea that it “boils down to one thing: we are here to be a part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are here for the kingdom of God. If what we are doing is not advancing God’s kingdom, then we need to stop what we’re doing.”
Even more so, we need to start doing what we should be doing – being broadcasters of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
