In early April, Syria dropped chemical weapons on its own people. Even though no one knew who did the attacks, the United States government and other world leaders blamed President Assad for the attack on civilians. Some leaders called it a war crime.
Per CNN, “World leaders expressed shock and outrage Tuesday at reports of a suspected chemical attack in northwestern Syria that killed scores of civilians, with one UK official suggesting the incident amounted to a war crime.”
No one knew a chemical attack was going on. There was no smell to the gas. All the sudden people began to die or get injured and their pupils were constricted.
BBC explains, “When he reached the scene, there was no smell, he said. He found people lying on the floor, unable to move and with constricted pupils, he added.”
This was not an isolated attack. In fact, this was the third chemical attack over a period of a week in Syria.
Fox News reports, “It was the third claim of a chemical attack in just over a week in Syria. The previous two were reported in Hama province, in an area not far from Khan Sheikhoun, the site of Tuesday’s alleged attack.” President Obama did not follow his promises on Syria and the use of chemical weapons. Quite the opposite he did nothing.
CNN states, “‘”Today’s chemical attack in Syria against innocent people, including women and children, is reprehensible and cannot be ignored by the civilized world,’” US President Donald Trump said, adding that he thinks the attacks was a consequence of the past administration’s weakness and irresolution. “‘President Obama said in 2012 that he would establish a ‘red line’ against the use of chemical weapons and then did nothing.’”
Those who were affected by the chemical attacks were foaming, fainting, as well as a host of other symptoms.
Per BBC, “The Syrian Observatory (SOHR) quoted medics as saying that they had been treating people with symptoms including fainting, vomiting and foaming at the mouth.”
There were at least 72 people killed, with at least 11 children who died.
Fox News reports, “The U.N. Security Council is to convene for an emergency meeting over the suspected deadly chemical attack. At least 11 of the 72 people that were reported killed were children.” The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon (NESSL) works to share Christ’s hope with the people of Lebanon. It did much translating of the Bible into Arabic originally. It continues its work to share Christ’s hope.
Per Presbyterian Church USA, “The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon continues to witness to Christ’s love and liberating message throughout Lebanon and Syria.” Pray for an end to Syria’s civil war. Pray for many to come to know Christ’s hope in Syria. Pray for the continued work of Christians in that country.
