World Anxious About Upcoming Rio Olympics

Let the games begin, whether the host country is ready or not.

As Rio de Janeiro awaits an estimated 7.5 million international guests for the 2016 Summer Olympics, questions remain about Brazil’s preparedness. Some venues are still not completed, the Zika virus that apparently originated there now threatens all of the Americas, their president is facing impeachment and the nation is in its worst recession in 80 years. Further, Islamic extremists are threatening terrorist attacks during the Games.

“No other country in Olympic history has lived through such difficult political times so sharply close to the Games,” Mario Andrada, the director of communications for the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, told the BBC.

Despite the overwhelming concerns, Ligonier Ministries is planning a major outreach called #TruthAtTheGames. The ministry plans to distribute 300,000 copies of R.C. Sproul’s book The Race of Faith in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese.

Pray for the outreach of Ligonier Ministries at the Rio Olympics and for Brazil’s leaders as they prepare for the Opening Ceremony on Aug. 5.
