WASHINGTON, DC – The Gallup Organization released its Decade in Review report on New Year’s Eve 2019. The report includes four segments, focusing on Persistent Issues and Concerns, Striking Moments, Revolutionary Changes, and Lasting Effects.
Among the Revolutionary Changes identified, Religion is listed along with Political Polarization, The US Economy, Marijuana, and Same-Sex Marriage.
Did you realize that there has been a revolutionary change in religion in the US?
Religion
The Gallup analysis simply listed religion as one of the revolutionary changes, without recognizing that it may be directly or indirectly related to the other items. The report observed that religious faith is much less prominent than in previous decades. Regular attendance at church services is at record lows. The number of Americans who say they have “no religion” has nearly doubled over the last 20 years.
Marijuana
No state recognized “recreational” marijuana use as legal in 2010. A decade later, 11 states and the District of Columbia have decriminalized marijuana either for medical or recreational use. What America does not realize is that the legalization of marijuana is the single most significant revolutionary shift in the past decade, more than in any other.
Same-Sex Marriage
Gallup notes that the support for gay marriage is one of the “most compelling” trends derived from their public opinion trends. When the 2010s began, most Americans opposed same-sex marriage. By the second year of the decade, a majority of Americans had begun to support the practice. By the close of 2019, public support of same-sex marriage has reached as high as 67 percent.
Political Polarization
Political polarization is expected in a two-party democracy. However, Gallup analysts calculated that the sides are more polarized than at any other time in the history of the company. The differentiation is so striking that the Gallup organization has expressed concerns over the political consequences of the next presidential election and beyond.
It is not presumptuous to propose that abandonment of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and obedience to His Word is at the very foundation of these radical changes. They are not single, separate, or unconnected.
In his book, Dark Agenda (Humanix Books, 2018), David Horowitz exposed the “progressive” liberal goal as envisioning “a new millennium in which Christianity is banished … undermining the Judeo-Christian principles upon which America was founded.”
Make no mistake. These issues are all pieces and evidence of an agenda designed to shift the balance of power in America away from the fundamentals of faith, the Gospel, and biblical morality.
The Economy
Ninety-one percent of Americans in 2010 believed that finding a quality job was difficult, if not impossible. The outlook now is “net-positive” about jobs in particular and the economy in general. However, “Gallup has consistently found that most Americans view the country’s current and future economic health through a political lens.”
A person’s politics generally reflect their religious beliefs – or lack thereof. That being the case, the more Americans who ignore the clear teachings of the Word of God, the more revolutionary these changes could become.
