COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Ken Harrison, chairman of Promise Keepers, honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country this Memorial Day:
“Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). This Memorial Day, we remember the brave soldiers who fell in death and left us standing. As someone who took the pledge to protect my country with my life, this day packs far more meaning than simply the memories to be made on a fun day with friends and family. Harry Truman said, “Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude.” This holiday is, in short, a day to show profound gratitude.
I often visit my grandfather’s burial place at Arlington National Cemetery where he was buried after serving in WWI. What staggers the mind and tugs at the heart when visiting a military cemetery are the rows upon rows of markers, each representing the individual life of a person who was made in the very image of God and who gave up their breath and blood for their love of country. Let us always remember their bravery and sacrifice with gratitude.”
