Just over two decades ago, a supporter of GFA urged the organization to initiate a well-drilling project. The love and compassion of Christ had moved so deeply within his heart that he offered to fully fund the first ten “Jesus Wells.” Since then, Gospel for Asia (GFA) has drilled more than 30,000 clean water wells across the South Asian subcontinent.
In addition to improving access to clean water for families and villages in developing countries where infrastructure we take for granted is virtually non-existent, Gospel for Asia (GFA) has also taken the responsibility of informing the public of the global water crisis. To wit, they have recently released the third in a series of Special Reports discussing this crisis that extends far beyond developing countries, even into North America.

More than two million Americans lack access to running water and indoor plumbing.
Another 30 million Americans live in areas lacking access to safe drinking water!
From big cities to small towns to tiny villages, Americans are drinking contaminated water, often without even knowing it.
On World Water Day, March 22, 2020, the United Nations cited “a continuing shortfall in water infrastructure investments from national governments and the private sector” as a contributing cause of the crisis that, left unaddressed, will lead to other crises.
Investment in infrastructure fails to generate the same romantic attraction as modern buildings and advanced technology do. However, the sustainable growth of communities and businesses requires new infrastructure. That leaves little revenue to fund the necessary maintenance and improvement of existing infrastructure. In fact, it often puts even more demand on water and wastewater systems.
Whether in war-torn sections of Africa or in other countries like the U.S., Greece, and Turkey, the migration of thousands of displaced persons can easily add more stress on existing water infrastructure systems than they were intended to bear.
Hidden damage underground contributes to both the present and looming water crisis in the U.S. Contaminants like lead and arsenic are becoming more widespread as infrastructure ages. Businesses in the private sector continue to pump contaminated effluent into rivers and streams – often unwittingly. These issues are rarely noticed until people get sick.
It doesn’t matter where water is on our planet. If it is contaminated, people who drink it will get sick, and many will die.
The singular issue remains the need to have access to clean water for personal use and to have enough clean water to provide access for everyone.
That is a mighty steep mountain to climb. But every mountain is climbed the same way—one step at a time.
Neither GFA World nor any other FBO, NGO, or public governing entity will ever be able to provide clean water everywhere it is needed. But we can all keep taking another step by addressing one more place in need.
GFA World drills about 4,000 Jesus Wells each year, with each well providing clean water for more than 300 people per day. That’s clean water made available for 1.2 million people per year. Plus, they are striving to make people like you aware of the need around the world and in your own backyard.
