How Dairy Goats Are Helping to Feed the Hungry in the Democratic Republic of Congo

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO — For the small community of Babonde, the regional nutritional center is a haven for many Congolese children that prevents child malnutrition and ensures that everyone in Babonde is properly fed. Over the past two years, Samaritan’s Purse has supplied a wide variety of eggplants, carrots, and even dairy goats that keep the families of Babonde healthy and solidify the food security of Babonde, Congo for years to come.

Sister Guylaine Little Sisters of Evangelization Church:

Thank you, I’m Sister Guylaine. I’m in the community of Babonde where we have the nutritional center called Talita Kumi. The nutritional center helps malnourished children to get nutrients into their bodies. It’s been two years since the nutritional center first contacted Samaritan’s Purse and to date, the team has brought us 25 dairy goats.

We had food difficulties, that’s what I can say. But since Samaritan’s Purse came we’ve got sweet potatoes we’ve got vegetable gardens. Instead of just eating beans we started eating bitter eggplants, amaranths, cabbages, even sweet eggplants, carrots too.

We have found that Samaritan’s Purse is truly an organization that sees the poor with the eye of a good Samaritan. Thank you.
