KENYA — A family in Kenya is experiencing comfort and hope, thanks to the generosity of friends of Operation Blessing. Sammy’s three daughters are warm and dry this Valentine’s Day in their new home. The new residence allows the girls to easily move from room to room, prepare food, and use the bathroom comfortably without assistance. The home was designed to meet their special needs.

Last year, Valentine’s Day was very different for this family. The family’s one-room mud hut offered little shelter from the wind and rain, causing Sammy concern that it might collapse. The situation worsened after the passing of his wife.
“I could no longer go to work, as I had to stay home and take care of my children,” Sammy said. Two of Sammy’s three daughters—Ruth (15) and Salome (14)—have brittle bone disease and require constant care. “When my wife passed away, it really affected us,” he remembered. “It increased the burden on me as I had to play both roles in the home.”
Ruth and Salome needed Sammy’s assistance to move around. The hut was so small that meals and family time were spent outside, with the interior only used for sleeping.
Feeding His Struggling Family … One Meal at a Time
Sammy turned to farming to provide one meal each day for his family, while maintaining his faith. “I often prayed to God for grace to get the resources to build a home and school my children.” Assistance arrived through Operation Blessing partners.
“When the construction began, I was very happy,” Sammy said. “I knew indeed God’s promises had come true over my life.”
The new home exceeded Sammy’s expectations. The concrete structure protects the family from the cold rain and wind, providing a warm, spacious, and safe environment for his daughters.
A New Home and a Rainwater Harvesting System
A rainwater harvesting system was installed outside their home, eliminating the need for Sammy to walk long distances to gather water. A wheelchair-accessible bathroom was also built, enabling the girls to use it without assistance.
Donors heard Sammy’s plea to provide for his daughters and gave this single father the gift of a lifetime. “Thank you so, so much for helping this struggling family, and may God bless you!”
