NEPAL — Dhorpatan Municipality, nestled at an elevation of 3,900 meters within an east-west valley, south of the majestic Dhaulagiri mountain range in the Himalayas, is home to a tight-knit community comprising indigenous Kham Magar people and Tibetan refugees.Santu (37 years old) and her husband Dal Bahadur (47 years old), proud residents of Dhorpatan, along with their three children, faced a devastating setback on 2024. While the couple was away in the jungle, engaged in the arduous task of gathering wood, tragedy struck as their humble abode and cherished household possessions succumbed to flames sparked by an electrical malfunction.

Currently displaced and seeking refuge with relatives, the family’s plight did not go unnoticed. With the support pouring in from neighbors and the local Dhorpatan Municipality office, efforts to reconstruct their home commenced.
Moved by the family’s plight, the local Believers Eastern Church priest, stepped forward to offer assistance in rebuilding their shattered lives. A few days after, with the help from Diocese of Pokhara, the local priest facilitated the provision of zinc sheets for the couple’s house roof. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Santu and Dal Bahadur expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Believers Eastern Church Dhorpatan for extending a helping hand in their time of need.
As the fire-affected family takes tentative steps towards rebuilding their lives, they do so with renewed hope and a sense of belonging, thanks to the selfless support of their community and the Church.
