Helping Vietnam Find Peace After Typhoon Yagi

VIETNAM — Discover how Samaritan’s Purse brings hope and relief to families affected by Super Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam with essential supplies.

Vu Thi Huong – Samaritan’s Purse:

I felt like fainting and didn’t want to live anymore. We were overwhelmed with panic, fear, sadness and didn’t know how to rebuild our home

Super Typhoon Yagi swept through northern Vietnam on September 7th.

Severe flooding and landslides buried entire villages under mud and debris, resulting in more than 200 lives lost and more than 100,000 displaced from their homes.

Nong Thi Bay – Homeowner:

In my home that night at 2am, while everyone was sleeping peacefully there was a sudden explosion that sounded like mining. We woke up in a panic holding onto each other as ran and jumped out of our home. The ground was shaking violently, but luckily everyone managed to escape in time.

Sam Thi Pho – Homeowner:

By the evening of the 9th, everything collapses. We lost all of our belongings. It took my husband and I many years to save up enough to build our small house but unfortunately the storm caused it to completely collapse. We have nothing left

Minh Nguyen – Samaritan’s Purse:

During this distribution, we are reaching 6,400 families in three provinces who have been affected by the floods and landslides that followed Storm Yagi.

These supplies include hygiene kits, food kits, kitchen kits, water filters, solar lights, and blankets.

In many places that we’re going right now, they cannot come to the distribution site, so we try to bring the supplies to them one by one.

This family was one of them.

They were heavily affected by the landslide, but they couldn’t get to the distribution site at the commune center.

So we just brought some supplies here and we hope the supplies will bring hope and relief to their family.

Luong Thi Trong – Homeowner:

Today your team came to give us these gifts which have been incredibly helpful and necessary for my family at this time.

Nguyen Thi Ngoc Bich – Women’s Union in Yen Bai Province:

In the most difficult times the Women’s Union of Yen Bai Province is also very grateful to receive the timely relief packages from Samaritan’s Purse organization.

Minh Nguyen – Samaritan’s Purse:

Thank you for your support, and please continue to pray for our team and the people affected here in Vietnam.
