KOHALPUR, NEPAL — On August 20th, 2024, the Hope for Children center in Kohalpur, Nepal, organized an impactful awareness program focusing on the reduction of domestic violence and the prevention of alcohol and drug addiction.
The event saw the active participation of around 50 community members. Guests from the Kohalpur Nagar Police Department and the Area Police Station were also present on the occasion.
During the program, City Police Chief Mr. Bir Bahadur Thapa shared valuable insights on the dangers of substance abuse, underscoring the need for initiatives like this to safeguard the future of the community’s children. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness among young people, as they are particularly vulnerable to falling into addiction in the future.
Following his session, Mrs. Rupa Budha from the social department of the Area Police Station spoke extensively on the topic of domestic violence. She explained that domestic violence encompasses physical, mental, sexual, and financial abuse within domestic relationships, as well as verbal and emotional harm. Her presentation covered key topics, including:
- Understanding domestic violence
- The effects of domestic violence
- Legal penalties for perpetrators
- Reporting mechanisms and complaint agencies, including the Police Office, local municipalities, the National Commission for Women, and the courts
- Compensation rights for victims
In addition to the talks, the Hope for Children team distributed informative pamphlets to those passing by, helping to further spread the message.
The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from HFC Coordinator Mr. Nabin Khatri, who expressed his gratitude to the guests and participants for their cooperation and support in making the event a success.
