CARIACCOU — Samaritan’s Purse has airlifted dozens of personnel and many tons of relief and medical supplies to Cariaccou where Hurricane Beryl made landfall July 1 as a Category 5 storm.
Everyone in Karaku lost everything. They lost their home, they lost their clothes, they lost their food, they lost water. It’s in a mess. It’s not a place where anybody would want to be right now.
Peter Holz – Samaritan’s Purse:
Samaritan’s Purse is responding to Grenada and Karaku Island. Karaku Island specifically has been very impacted by this storm. The entire island is de-vegetated, up to 90 percent of homes are destroyed. So people don’t have a good place to shelter, good water right now. People are lacking medical care on the island, so we’re coming to respond to that.
James Vechery – Samaritan’s Purse:
As you can see behind me, we just brought our DC-8 aircraft in with about 64,000 pounds of cargo, which is a Tier 1 emergency field hospital.
Brent Kejr – Samaritan’s Purse:
This is the mobile desalinization unit that we brought in from North Carolina. It can take ocean water and make fresh drinking water for up to 3,500 people a day.
Peter:
The people have endured a lot in the last couple of days, but we’re excited to come here to bring them hope. Not just items, not just water, not just medical care, but we want to bring them hope. We want to bring them hope that only Jesus can bring them.
