EGYPT — When Bilal, a Sudanese baker, fled the conflict in Sudan it wasn’t just because of the conflict but also because his family threatened to kill him after he converted from Islam to Christ.
When his family arrived in Egypt as refugees they had nothing but thanks to help from a Christian ministry he has started his own bakery business, where customers also receive the bread of life.
STRICT EMBARGO. This report cannot be broadcast in the Middle East or the Islamic world.
We’re here at the Bakery of Blessing and this place is certainly a blessing not just for the couple that run this that fled persecution in Sudan but also every customer. Not only are they giving them bread physically, but they’re sharing the bread of life with every customer where they can learn about Christ. Let’s here more about their story now.
Bilal was forced to flee Sudan with his wife and two children not just because of the conflict but also because his own family threatened to kill him after he converted from Islam to Christianity.
When they arrived in Egypt to start a new life they had nothing until Christian ministry Help The Persecuted stepped in to help them start this bakery business thanks to the enduring livelihood initiative.
Bilal says being able to support his own family has been literally life-changing.
Bilal:
I have so much joy because of this bakery. Jesus heard our prayers and through your support we have a decent living. We had nothing and the war stole everything, but this bakery gave us back our dignity. I am able to feed my family now. I thank the Lord for His mercy and grace.
Bilal shares why he’s so passionate to share the bread of life of Jesus to everyone of his customers.
Bilal:
Anyone who comes to me or my shop saying they don’t have money to buy bread,
I respond by saying neither did I have anything.
But when I accepted Christ as my savior I realized that now I have everything.
So I give them bread free of charge accompanied with a Bible verse.
I urge them to read the Bible everyday so they may find the grace of Christ.
Every day I have a different encounter like this.
Anybody who comes to our bakery even if they have no money I give them bread. And I give them something from the Bible. I tell them you can have Christ now
And Help The Persecuted remains committed to rescuing, restoring and rebuilding the lives of many more persecuted Sudanese Christians like Butrus.
