The NHCLC Brings Critical Relief to Families Devastated by Southern California Fires

LOS ANGELES, CA — The National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC), led by Reverend Samuel Rodriguez, is partnering with the Trauma Healing Institute, American Bible Society and Convoy of Hope to bring much-needed critical relief to area families devastated by the southern California fires.

The deadly Los Angeles-area fires continue to consume the region with more than 12,400 homes and businesses destroyed and some 180,000 residents forced to evacuate their homes. Through local partnerships, the NHCLC is addressing the immediate practical needs and the long-term mental health challenges faced by individuals, families, churches, and ministries in the region.

“We are committed to helping Southern California heal not only physically but spiritually and emotionally as well,” said Pastor Samuel Rodriguez, president of the NHCLC. “These fires have left scars on families, communities, and churches, and we believe that through the love of Christ and practical resources, we can help restore hope and healing in this region. We are dedicated to serving those impacted with compassion–reminding these families they are not alone and that God loves them.”

In collaboration with the Trauma Healing Institute and the American Bible Society, the NHCLC is distributing Bibles and mental health resources–including “Beyond Disaster” booklets and postcards–that combine mental health principles with a biblical perspective.

“We are responding to the devastation that has profoundly affected so many individuals, including Latino Pastors, churches and communities,” said Reina Olmeda, mental health initiative director for the NHCLC. “Our teams are deeply committed to offering hope and spiritual guidance to those in pain.”

New Season Church in Downey, CA, is serving as the base of operations to provide these resources to pastors and impacted communities. Additionally, a team is being assembled to reach out to local pastors who have been personally impacted.

In addition to providing mental health resources, the NHCLC is partnering with Convoy of Hope to deliver essential aid to families displaced by the fires. The Convoy of Hope has already deployed seven truckloads of relief and continues to work around the clock to bring help to hurting families. Through the Pasadena Pastor’s Coalition, teams are distributing supplies from the school district’s hub.

“In the midst of the destruction, Convoy of Hope is delivering truckloads of supplies to support people who need help and hope and the love of Jesus during this tragic time,” said Ethan Forhetz, vice president of public engagement for Convoy of Hope. “We are working with local churches to make sure residents in southern California have what they need to make it through this devastating disaster and to know that God loves them.”

These collective initiatives reflect NHCLC’s mission to provide practical aid and spiritual guidance to California families who have lost so much to the wildfires, bringing support to impacted communities and reminding them they are not alone.
