RIO DE JANEIRO — The humanitarian organization, Joni and Friends, aims to provide wheelchairs in Rio de Janeiro to respond to Jesus’ mandate in Luke 14: “…bring the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame…so that my house will be full.”
Katie Oliver – Wheels for the World:
Over 40 million people live in poverty in Brazil, many in favelas, the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Joni and Friends recognizes this need. We are providing wheelchairs to those who need them most desperately.
Sheila – Larissa’s Mother:
My name is Sheila, I’m Larissa’s mom. She has cerebral palsy and she’s also a quadriplegic.
Katie Oliver – Wheels for the World Giving Larissa a wheelchair is very special, it gives her life to move around her house, around her community, to see the world, perhaps for the first time.
Tony Soria – Wheels for the World:
For Larissa it’s very important to be able to mobilize herself. The wheelchair gives her that opportunity.
Katie:
For Larissa, having this wheelchair is a blessing, but also for her mother Sheila. Larissa can now see and experience the world from a seat of dignity.
Sheila:
It helped us a lot. Larissa really needed it. You don’t know what a blessing it has been. I thank you with all my heart. May God bless you.
