SAVANNAH, GEORGIA — Homeowners in Savannah, Georgia, give thanks for the Samaritan’s Purse volunteers who are helping them recover from flooding caused by remnants of Hurricane Debby.
Dipyanti Shan – Homeowner:
So after the storm, Debby left, there is everything normal the next day. Kids go home, and everything is normal. But the Friday, we start seeing some water coming out from the edges of the road. But then the water start rising and rising and rising.
Jorge Morales – Homeowner:
Finally, the water started coming in through the side of the house, out of nowhere. And the water continued to rise and rise and come in more. Then it was the side of the living room, then it was coming into my room, and when I came to see, there was water all over the place coming in.
Chris Wilson – Homeowner:
We had a ton of volunteers and people all over the neighborhood coming through on boats bringing sandbags, supplies. Somebody come by probably about 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. We flagged them down, and we said, “Hey, can you get the kids out of here?”
Luca Testa – Homeowner:
I bought this house June 18th. I moved in June 18th, this year, moved in June. This is my first house I’ve ever bought. It had reached; I remember it was in my garage. I was like, please don’t come to my house. I was like, please don’t come to my house, and then unfortunately I woke up Sunday morning, I stepped out of bed, and I heard squish. I was like, “No, I cannot do this.”
Raven Walker – Samaritan’s Purse:
Samaritan’s Purse is here in Savannah, Georgia, due to Hurricane Debby, which has caused widespread damage across this area. We are seeing lots of homes that are flooded and several areas that are still not accessible, except for by boat or kayak.
Chris:
And then Samaritan’s Purse comes in, and they’re like, “No, don’t worry about it. It’s what we do. It’s what we gotta do.” Oh, it means the world to us. It means the absolute world to us.
Dipyanti:
We go outside and meet the whole crew, with all nice people and all volunteers. He tell us the things like what’s going on with our house and the flood.
Luca
I actually didn’t believe it was going to happen. I’m not going to lie. I’m going to be so honest. I called you guys and he’s like, “Yeah, we’ll probably be out there on Saturday.” I was like, they ain’t coming Saturday. They ain’t coming. And then I got the call today, and I was like, no way.
Jorge:
That’s where God shows up because these are faith people and all these volunteers, and they’re doing a wonderful job, and I thank them very much.
Luca:
I’m very thankful.
Chris
Thank the Lord we got folks like y’all.
Dipyanti:
I thank you. I appreciate it.
Jorge:
And may they continue. May God keep giving them the source, the volunteers, and the willingness to continue doing what they’re doing right now.
