PUERTO RICO — Samaritan’s Purse is helping to bring clean water to families in Puerto Rico following the devastation caused by Hurricane Fiona by setting up water filtration systems in neighborhoods.
Jeremiah Roberts – Samaritan’s Purse:
In the wake of hurrican Fiona there’s been widespread loss of access to electricity and also to drinking water. Communities in remote areas aren’t being serviced as quicky, so they are and so they’re struggling to get clean water. This instance of hurricane Fiona we can see, just in a short amount of time how necessary safe drinking water is for life.
Ricky Geigel – Samaritan’s Purse:
We say Samaritan’s Purse works is that everywhere we go we know there’s a need.
We’re in the city of Yauco, and we’re about to impact a community that has over 3,000 citizens that are in dire need of water.
Jeremiah:
Last night we had several guys working with us till well into the night and then this morning we started pumping water and once the system is up and running we’ve seen a steady stream of people coming bringing their jerrycans and other containers and we’re also distributing jerrycans for them to take that potable water back with them.
Edwin Baez – Local Resident:
The chance to have potable water for our homes, our families, for our neighborhoods is something we are grateful for. This is life for our children, our neighbors and the whole community.
Jorge Feliciano – Local Resident:
It is delicious. It’s like the spring water in Puerto Rico. As if it was a spring, just like it.
Daisy Baez:
Having drinking water every day is essential and this water filtration project, almost in the backyard of our home is marvelous.
Ricky:
The relationship that we established during Maria made such an impact that when we came back they knew who we were, and they really opened their arms to us. They opened their doors, and they wanted us to help them.
Jeremiah:
Coming here to Puerto Rico, traveling round the world meeting needs for water is just an expression to show the love of Christ.
Samaritan’s Purse has gathered people from around the world to come over here to Puerto Rico and to love on people and to help them. As a Puerto Rican this hits home for me.
That you, Samaritan’s Purse, for this great opportunity they are giving up to help us move forward.
