Restoring Clean Water to the Bahamas

BAHAMAS — Samaritan’s Purse is helping to repair the water distribution system in Sweetings Cay on Grand Bahama Island after it was destroyed by Hurricane Dorian in 2019.

Phil Walsh, Samaritan’s Purse:

The level of destruction here from Hurricane Dorian is really hard to believe at times. Entire houses wiped out completely. Communities really just devastated. Here we are a little over a year later. Lot of houses still completely destroyed. Water is very difficult to get, and the system here is in disrepair. Here in Sweetings Cay, off the coast of Grand Bahama, working here with Samaritan’s Purse on restoration of the distribution water mains. This is a great project. We’re a number of weeks into the program now, and everything is going well.

Shervin Tate, Deputy Chief Councilor, Sweetings Cay:

Water is essential, and looky here. They are putting water miles in Sweetings Cay for the residents here, so I’m excited. I don’t know how to say thanks to them, but I want you to know the work you’re doing is extraordinary.

Deon Feaster, Sweetings Cay Town Council:

We are just so happy and so grateful for what these folks are doing here for the community of Sweetings Cay. Appreciate you so very much. Thank you.
