“Giving Thanks for Volunteers in Hawaii”

KULA, HAWAII — Kula, Hawaii, homeowner Donna Waters gives thanks for the Samaritan’s Purse volunteers who did chain saw work and helped sift through the ashes of houses in her neighborhood that were destroyed by wildfires to find personal items.

Donna WatersHomeowner:

We had this huge wildfire in the Gulch. You’re standing in my neighborhood in Kula, Maui. So many of my neighbors and friends, their homes are gone.

Cliff DudleySamaritan’s Purse:

We’re here sifting through debris and ashes. We’ve also been doing a lot of chainsaw work. Spot fires broke out when we pulled up. So we got out a bunch of our equipment and started making sure that they’re contained.

Donna:

I’m like speechless about you people. You showed up with a truck and not only a truck and all these volunteers, but the kindest, sweetest, most compassionate, most giving people I think I’ve ever met. I’m smiling in the middle of a tragedy because I have so much hope, and I’m so uplifted, really, by your goodness. I can’t thank you enough. Anybody, everybody is welcome, because the physical work is so daunting and so overwhelming. And none of us are spring chickens. We’re just so happy to have all these hard workers here, and that’s what we need.

Cliff:

We’re here for one reason alone, and that’s to share the love of Jesus Christ. He gives us the strength. He gives us the ability. Being his hands and feet, there’s nothing better.
