Do You Believe in Miracles Today?

According to The Outreach Foundation, “more [ Muslims ] have come to Christ in the last 17 years than in the previous 1,400 years combined,” a fact confirmed by the Christian Broadcasting Network.

According to The Outreach Foundation, “more [ Muslims ] have come to Christ in the last 17 years than in the previous 1,400 years combined,”

How can that really be true? Answer these questions first.

Do you believe that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son” so that any person who calls upon will be granted everlasting life?

Do you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ would go to any lengths to redeem a lost soul?

Do you believe that He would do miraculous things to draw unbelievers to Him?

Do you believe that Jesus still performs miracles today?

For some reason, it is easier for most Western Hemisphere Christians to answer affirmatively to the first three questions than it is to agree that the fourth question is valid.

The rest of this article will require that you believe that Jesus performs miracles today.

Be Strong in Faith

In his book Surprised by the Power of the Spirit, Jack Deere proposed that the reason we do not believe in the miraculous today is that we have experienced the work of charlatans, but we have not personally experienced a supernatural moving of God.

Do you believe that faith is “the evidence of things not seen?” Of course, you do. And, if you do, then you do not need to experience a miracle to know that Jesus is working them all over the world. We believe the truth that “with God nothing is impossible.” Or, we do not.

We are on dangerous ground if our faith is based on experience. It must be based on accepting the truth of the Word of God regardless of what our eyes see or what the world tells us is correct.

Believe

In her book, The Jesus Visions: Signs and Wonders in the Muslim World, Christine Darg shares multiple stories of Muslims who have come to Christ because He has appeared to them in dreams and visions.

“He is going into the Muslim world and revealing, particularly, the last 24 hours of His life – how He died on the cross, which Islam does not teach – how He was raised from the dead, which Islam also does not teach – and how He is the Son of God, risen in power.”

Be Aware

Recently, Boko Haram militants attacked a group of 500 Nigerian Christians. They captured, abducted, and tortured 76 of them.

They selected four of the Christian men and threatened to kill them unless they denied Jesus Christ. They refused. The militants killed them in front of the other 72.

Later, the four Christian widows received an ultimatum similar to the one given to their husbands. The militants would kill their children, if they refused to deny Christ. God Reports explained that as the widows

“agonized together that evening, their excited children came running in, telling their mothers that Jesus had appeared to them and told them all would be well. Jesus then appeared to the whole group of 72 and told them not to fear for He would protect them. He said they should not renounce Him but should stay strong, and that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

Be Amazed

When the women refused to deny Christ, the Muslim soldiers lined the children against a wall where they intended to shoot them.

“Suddenly the militants began screaming and clawing at their own heads. Shouting “Snakes!” they fled the scene, and some of them dropped dead.

One of the Christian men reached for the gun of a dead militant but the four-year-old put her hand on his arm to stop him. “You don’t need to do that,” she said, “Can’t you see the men in white fighting for us?”

The scene is somewhat reminiscent of when Elisha asked the Lord to open his servant’s eyes to see the heavenly horses and chariots of fire in 2 Kings 6:17. It is similar also to the Lord appearing with the three Hebrew men in Nebuchadnezzar’s fiery furnace in Daniel chapter 3.

Be Encouraged

The Lord is still at work. Jesus is drawing men and women to Himself, even where there is no one else to lead them.

He is saving and protecting those who believe, who trust His Word, who follow, and refuse to deny Him. Our salvation is not trivial to Him.

Let us believe and rejoice in His great love.
