Caring Volunteers in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA — Samaritan’s Purse volunteers Dan and Krupa Premkumar praise God that they can serve hurting homeowners in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in Jesus’ Name following a devastating windstorm that ripped through the area where they live.

So we’re here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where on Monday, August 10th, a derecho, which is a wind event– this one brought hundred mile an hour winds– slammed through this neighborhood. Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are out cutting trees, tarping roofs, and helping folks clean up their yards and start to put the pieces back together after this devastating storm.

Dan and Krupa Premkumar, Volunteers

My name is Dan Premkumar, and this is my wife, Krupa Premkumar. We are from Chennai, India. We’ve been in the United States for almost 20 years now. We’ve been in Cedar Rapids for 15 years. I love that during the COVID in New York City, I saw clips of Samaritan’s Purse going in and helping the sick when the world was running away from those who were infected. We, as Christians, we need to run towards them and help them, and I loved seeing that Samaritan’s Purse does that. That’s one of the reasons why I like volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse.

And I was very happy that, yeah, we have different organizations trying to help Cedar Rapids, but I was thrilled that there was somebody in the Name of Jesus having a presence here early on. You guys came on Wednesday, and that meant a lot for us to see that, the churches here, and we are His hands and feet doing everything for the Lord.

And for me it is just seeing the people’s weight lifted off as they are in a hard place, seeing them get relieved that someone is coming and taking care of them and doing that again in Jesus’ Name and letting them know that it is the love of Jesus. That’s what I love about today.
