On January 22, 2017, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake hit Papua New Guinea. It is initially believed to be no deaths.

According to CNN, “The predominant structure of homes in the area meant they were vulnerable to earthquakes, it said, and fatalities were possible.”

There was a Tsunami warning put into effect for several hours after the earthquake.

Yahoo News reported, “‘Hazardous tsunami waves from this earthquake are possible within the next three hours along some coasts of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Vanuatu, Chuuk and Indonesia,’ the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.”

Eventually, the Tsunami warning was only for the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. After a while of observing that area, the Tsunami warning was called off.

News.co.au explains, “The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre earlier said there was no threat to Australia, and New Zealand confirmed there was no danger to its coastlines.”
New Tribe Missions is sharing Christ’s hope with the tribes of Papua New Guinea through beads. These beads help teach them the timeline from creation to Christ.

New Tribes Missions reports, “There were two teams in Papua New Guinea who came up with an ingenious plan. Both teams had strings of at least 6,000 beads. These were used to show the number of years since creation. Most of the people couldn’t imagine any time longer than maybe as old as the oldest member — under 100 years.”

Please pray for many people to find the hope of Christ through the explanation of the divine plan from creation to Christ in Papua New Guinea.
